Artificial Intelligence is restructuring society in many ways, including the ways we work. While this technology offers amazing opportunities for assisting clinicians, the appropriate and ethical use of these tools is emerging as an area of critical focus in the development and implementation of AI powered clinical writing apps.
Abstract
A major challenge for mental health professionals is the time and fatigue involved in clinical note writing and report writing. AI developers are addressing this issue with a variety of smart apps designed to assist clinicians in writing notes and reports. However, the use of these apps raises critical questions about privacy, HIPAA compliance, diagnostic formulation, clinical accuracy, and the inner working design of these tools. To address these concerns, this presentation is delivered by the team of a clinical psychologist and AI engineer who co-developed a clinical writing app. This is an interactive discussion on the current state of ethical use involving AI clinical writing apps.
Dr. William July, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Houston with offices and associates in Houston, Dallas, and Round Rock. He specializes in psychological testing and assessments for various purposes. He is a nationally bestselling author and has written seven books, including being published internationally. He has also contributed to academic literature as the author of a textbook chapter on Personality.
Dr. July's diverse background includes careers in law enforcement, real estate investing, and academia, serving in various roles such as a patrol officer, assistant professor, and adjunct faculty member. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the Harold Abel School of Psychology at Capella University, an M.S. in Psychology, and a B.B.A. in Business Administration from Texas Southern University. Currently, he serves on the Executive Committee of the Texas Psychological Association and he is the President-Elect. In the past he has been highly featured in the media, providing psychological insights on major networks.
