Description

As the number of racially and ethnically diverse trainees increases in the field of counseling and psychology, the opportunities for cross-cultural supervision are also increasing. It is imperative that supervisors have more than a perfunctory awareness of and openness to multiculturalism to ensure that they are providing culturally-competent supervision. In this presentation, we aim to facilitate a self-reflective discussion about cultural humility, including what cultural humility is and the responsibility that supervisors have to understand and model cultural humility in the supervision process. We will explore the habits of culturally humble supervisors and the ways in which supervisors can foster cultural humility within their supervisees.

I provide individual counseling to adults residing all across Texas through online therapy. I have a passion for working with ethnically and racially diverse populations and religious populations. I believe that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. When you make positive changes to one of those areas, the other areas are also positively impacted. I am committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental space in which you can share and examine your deepest thoughts and feelings. We will work together to challenge self-defeating thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may keep you feeling stuck. I promise to be genuine and transparent in our work together. I respect each individual and I honor the rich and meaningful diversity and culture that is within and around them. If you are ready to take that first step, you can set up a free 15-minute phone consultation online at https://kaylajohnson.clientsecure.me I am also available to speak to your group on a variety of topics related to mental health including such topics as depression, anxiety, suicide prevention, self-care, and stress management.
